Jeffrey D. Sachs

Jeffrey D. Sachs (born November 5, 1954) is a prominent American economist and public policy analyst, recognized for his work in sustainable development and global economic strategy. He is currently a University Professor at Columbia University and serves as the Director of the Center for Sustainable Development. From 2002 to 2016, he directed the Earth Institute at Columbia.

Sachs has been a key advisor to three United Nations Secretaries-General, focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and previously on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). He is also the President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and co-founder of the Millennium Promise Alliance, aimed at ending extreme poverty.

An accomplished author, Sachs has written several bestselling books, including The End of Poverty (2005) and The Age of Sustainable Development (2015). He has received numerous accolades for his contributions to economics and environmental leadership, including being named among Time magazine’s 100 most influential people. Sachs earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from Harvard University and has advised numerous governments on economic policy over his extensive career.
